Curry color for liver cells

Works in mice, soon to be tested in humans

A curry ingredient may prove to be effective as a treatment for Type II diabetes.

The
University of Queensland’s Centre for Immunology and Cancer Research is testing drugs they hope will reduce the liver swelling associated with obesity, a contributor to the development of Type II diabetes.

“One of the drugs we’re using is curcumin, which is basically the yellow compound that you see in curries, which is an anti-inflammatory compound,” said one of the UQ researchers.
